Jon Barnewolt is a watercolor
artist inspired by the architecture
of both man & God. He finds great
interest in the weathered,
crumbling buildings that many
might consider an eyesore. Jon
sees a vibrant history hiding
behind the peeling paint of these
storied structures an old life &
perhaps a new one, waiting just
below the surface of a seemingly
lifeless shell. Sometimes haunting,
sometimes hopeful, but always
intriguing these buildings parallel
in the artist’s mind his other
source of inspiration, the
weathered, fading but forever
relevant architecture of God, the
majestic landscapes of our world.
It is the artist’s hope that you too
might see the beauty in these old
structures of God & men and so
too be inspired to save & honor
them.
Jon uses the soft transparent glow
of his medium with the more
aggressive stroke & range of color
found in oils. With these, bold
contrast, dynamic perspective &
gritty subject matter combine to
create edgy, passionate artwork in
an unlikely medium.
